14" Folding Magnetic Wooden Chess Set

The set is carefully well made with the pieces stored in precut cushioning that protects them nicely.
The chessboard/container is not only sturdy but beautiful. I also love that it was packaged so well to ship - wrapped in paper, then bubble wrap and placed inside not one but two shipping boxes.

While the board and pieces are absolutely beautiful there were several issues with the product that were so obvious I couldn’t believe this ever passed quality checks from such a reputable company. Several pieces have defects in the form of chips (notably the Bishops but also others), mismatched colors (specifically, the two white queens were different shades of white), peeled felt lining on the bottom of multiple pieces, dried excess glue by felt causing some pieces to wobble while on board, and weak magnets on certain pieces to the point that some will slide off the board when the board is gently tilted (most pieces have very strong magnets but some, not so much). I also found it weird that some pieces repel each other when trying to touch their bottoms together while others actually attracted other pieces, all however stuck to the board. Maybe I don’t know enough about magnets but I would think all pieces would repel each other if they all also stick to the board but who knows. Then the felt carrying bag that came with the board has a small tear in the side and while it’s not a huge issue at present it will likely only get worse as time goes on. Finally, the board itself has several defects in the form of one super loose latch that requires no effort to pop open compared to the other latch as well as the board severely wobbling when laid in the normal play position with all the pieces removed. It literally rocks back and forth across two opposite corners. Needless to say, I’m extremely disappointed and so are my parents who purchased this product with the assumption that such a reputable company would go to great lengths to ensure quality control. I’ve contacted support hoping to rectify the situation but I doubt there’s any way to guarantee a replacement board be above the quality defects mentioned above so I’m not really sure what do outside of completely returning it. I would have expected this level of quality from one of those $40 Amazon chess sets, not this one and certainly not one sold by Chess House.

Really attractive travel set for when you're playing someone important.

Hello, the chess board is really nicely constructed and will last a lifetime. Thanks to your team for sorting out the free gift that came with the board. Thanks Tanya

The set is absolutely beautiful and the way it is packed for shipping is foolproof. Absorbing materials in case it is dropped or thrown around and then the waterproofing in plastic. I am just amazed, at not only the thought that went into packing it for shipment; but also the superior craftmanship of the chess pieces. I will be recommending your company to everyone as a result of my experience and the superior craftmanship of the item and the entire process from website to delivery. Thank You.

14" Folding Chess Box and Set

This chess board is beautiful. The wood is so attractive. The folding chess board is wonderful and the chess pieces are so beautiful. Thank you. My son and grandson love it. I would highly recommend this chess set.

Really nice set!

Love this set. It is too beautiful to leave in its bag. I will display this set when not traveling.

Everything about it says hand-worked and hand-finished.

Well pleased with this chess box and set.

Beautiful well made, great price for quality, great customer service support as well! Thank you, love both sets that I ordered from chess house!

I bought this set as a gift. It is a beautiful set and extremely well made. I would buy it again as a gift or for myself as a traveling chess set.

This is a beautifully made, large, magnetic chess set. The magnets are very strong and hold the pieces in place even if you hold the board upside down. The board is sturdy and the workmanship of the pieces is excellent.

huge hit with my 13 and 15 year old!

Beautiful materials, excellent construction, thoughtful details, practical size, and good price -- it's everything we were looking for. The recipient is so proud of his new chess set!

This is a Christmas present for our grandson. The craftsmanship is even better than I’d hoped it could be. The magnetic wooden pieces are comfortable to hold. The magnetic aspect provides just enough hold. I’m confident he’ll love it as much as we do.

Looks good, practical, no issues but 2 small areas for improvement: the underside storage is exposed foam which seems chintzy and may not last. Also, the packaging had a ton of styrofoam packing peanuts, not a very sustainable choice, especially with all the better options out there.

The chess set is really nice, my husband love it. I got it for him for Father’s Day, I started playing with him now too. I like that they are magnetic, it’s good when we are traveling and the kids wants to play with it.

They are beautifully made, materials and appearance is very well made. All in all it’s a good buy.

Purchased this for my young nephews who need a magnetic set to keep the pieces on the board. They love it. The quality is excellent and it travels well when they play in the car. The board size is good for kids who want more of a “grownup” experience. Finally, it’s a real plus that the pieces stow away in the underside of the board. Perfect!

After searching online for a gift for my son in law, I ordered this one and hoped for the best. We were so pleased when we received this set, It is beautiful and the pieces look hand carved. It looks far more expensive than it was. An added bonus, It folds for travel and the pieces fit inside in individually padded slots. We’re very happy with this set!

The set is as advertised. Good looking and functional.

I ordered this set for my husband. When it arrived we were thrilled with the quality of the board and the pieces!

The chess board is very wobbly when opened and we try to use it and it is annoying. Does not sit flat or even close to flat

Rafael was great and got my chess board to me in time for Christmas. Thanks you and highly recommend. Chess board was exactly as advertised! good quality

Truly a beautiful set that looks high quality. Great price and service from ChessHouse too.

Bought as a travel set for my partner. Board does not sit flat when opened and rocks with every move, which makes playing without the corner shimmed unpleasant. I could fix this myself with some planing/sanding, but it would ruin the finish (and frankly I shouldn't have to). Pieces are nicely made for the most part, some left rather rough with shavings still attached which had to be trimmed off.

Great set!

Bought it to play chess with my son. It is very well made. Quality product! Great size foldable magnetic board . Well suited for both at home and travel. We have been playing everyday since we received it. I recommend this product.
