12" Magnetic Travel Chess Set in Rosewood Color

Exceeded my expectations
Magnetic pieces quite strong and pieces looked great

I chose the 12” magnetic travel chess set because of its solid design. The board and pieces came with a zipper case, and when opened, it is slotted on one side to firmly hold the pieces. A slip case is included that the zipper case slides into for longer-term storage. It is the perfect companion for practicing and playing while traveling or even playing at home. The smaller pieces are nicely designed and weighted. The board’s aesthetics are beautiful as well. The photos here at Chess House are very accurate. I am 100% satisfied! Thanks!

Very nice travel set. Non folding magnetic board and piece cutouts. Very nice storage/ carry bag as well.

Don't buy this if you don't want to risk the top sticker bubbling off or the metal sheet completely disconnecting from the board. I've complained already, had a replacement board sent, WHICH ALSO FAILED. I'd give this chessboard ZERO STARS if possible.

This is a nice travel chess set . I love the board and it was what I was waiting for. The storage case looks strong and resistant. The pieces are lacquered, very light, the feeling of the magnet is very weak and some chess pieces have glue at the base.
The dark pieces are not rosewood, they are painted with a light brown color that gives the appearance of rosewood but do not look natural.

I'm in love with my new chess set!!
Is the perfect size and the Chess House was excellent keeping me updated with the backorder set.
Very happy with my purchase!!

The set was back ordered so it took some time . Nov26 th arrived January 27th . The set is a great idea but the quality at this price point is not very good . Like others I too have bubbles under the surface (7 spots ) I thought this would get fixed as others have complained but I guess it’s hasn’t been resolved . The chess pieces are decent but the felt job is terrible . Most of the pieces have glue that soaked through leaving the bottom scratchy making an un pleasant experience sliding across the board. Others are barely glued and the thin felt is already separating without any use . The quality control was missed on these pieces . Not thrilled to have to source out new felt and scrape the existing ones off . Perhaps I’d do that if the board was cheap but at this price point it’s disappointing . This set was $120 CAD thus I feel the quality should be much better .

The board arrived with a dented corner. While disappointing, it doesn’t effect play. Otherwise it’s a decent setup for the cost.

The delivery was good, can’t say anything about that; but I was disappointed by what I got... When I unboxed this chess set, the toxic stench of chemicals just sprung up out of the box! It smells like some sort of glue, or finish, and its really strong, you cant keep it in the house because it will stink up the whole place. It’s been a week since the delivery, and it’s still airing out on my porch, A WEEK!! But the smell is almost gone. Aside from the smell, I was quite disappointed by the board.. it has air bubbles right under the little wood-looking sheet. I have photos of it... I can air out the smell, but I can’t get rid of the air bubbles... Otherwise, its an ight set, I wouldnt give it 5 stars, I personally think that its worth a 2... You would think that for 71$ you would get a good quality set, that’s what you’re expecting, but for me it just seems like it was made a little carelessly.. The air bubbles in the board really take away the joy of looking at the chess set.. maybe a replacement of the board would fix the situation.? PS: Guys, I made repeated the same review, because on the last one I forgot to choose the two star rating! but this one it correct! 2 stars

Xmas morning daughter opened her gift to find the felt on the black bishop is missing
Searched the box in case it just needed to be re-glued but is no where to be found
She loves the set but was disappointed by this defect...
Hope customer service will respond to this review
And correct the problem, Thnx

Beautiful chess set. It arrived right now and I'm excited. I haven't seen anything like this before. The board looks very high quality and the pieces too. I like the strength of the magnets - the pices don't fall if you turn the board upside down, they fall once you shake it with a some force. Perfect multipurpose size - for my personal needs it feels like a semi-travelling set, it fits on my table unlike the full size 50x50 cm, and it's about the maximum size I would want to pack for a journey. The playability is good, I have big hands and pieces don't get into way too much.

To summarize - aesthetics are absolutely stunning + nice balance between the size and playability.

More detailed stuff: I see people complain about a piece size and a smell. On the first look the pieces look the same size and shape. Now that I looked at it more detailed, I have to add this to be as fair as possible - the pawn size can vary a little, much less than 1mm, I would have never noticed it if somebody didn't write it (I add a picture, the 2 pawns on the right are the biggest size difference I found (maybe 0,3 mm). By other pieces I don!t see a size difference. There's some subtle smell if you put your nose on the board :) that doesn't bother me, not really worth mentioning.

I was worried about the color of brown pieces. In a video they looked a bit light yellowinsh brown, it depends on the angle. To be very detailed, they look slightly darker from up (player's angle) and slightly lighter from the front. I originally wanted to get the black set. I'm happy that I chose the brown set, it's a beautiful light/medium dark brown and it's a pleasant colorful view.

Hope it helps ;)

I bought this to help me with analyze tactics puzzles.

The board is beautiful, good quality, nicely done. The magnet strength is perfect me. Its enough to hold the pieces when moving it from one room to another; also good enough to 'store' pieces not used in the current puzzle along the edges.

I'm disappointed with the pieces. They are not done to the same standard. Though I guess it this price having such a nice board is all that one could expect. In addition, the Knights seems oversized. And the "black" pieces seem pale to me, and the "white" dark; I'm used to black and white pieces, so maybe this is just something I will adapt to in time.

Finally, the smell of the case, which has been remarked upon by other reviewers, is annoying. I've had my case in the garage airing out for a week now. I just checked it. One side is much better, but the other is ... not something you'd want to carry around. I will flip it over and see if another week helps.

I rate the board 5/5, the pieces 3/5 = 4/5, Minus1 star for the crummy smell that pervades the case.

Arrived ... As described excited to try it out but won't have access to it for another month. This baby is on its way to my work in Panama! Pictures received show a beautiful board and well made pieces at a size condusive for play and study traveling in remote areas. I hope it lasts in our crazy weather here!

The *only* thing I wish this particular size and travel board had would be a grid. But no worries.

Best travel set out there!! I have tried several. Like the ones that fold in half and you keep the pieces inside, but when you open they fall out, or ones that don't have enough side area to put your captured pieces so you hold them in your hands, and they don't come with a nice case... This set address all those issues, the case keeps each polished piece in its own compartment and is sturdy enough to cushion a fall. Each piece is well crafted, plenty of sideboard space to hold the captured pieces, and of course magnetic enough so you can flip upside down. Bravo!

This chess set is perfect when you want to study or replay games for leisure. It is big enough that it feels comfortable to the eyes but also small enough to fit almost any table. It has been recommended by some experts that when watching a chess video, it is often advisable to have a chessboard with you in order to absorb the lessons more deeply. That is to replay the games in your chessboard or analyze variations not covered in the video with it. I believe that this is the best chess set to accompany the chess videos as the full size set (21” or 23”) might take to much space and make you feel uncomfortable. Studying chess with a book is also perfect with this chess set. However, this set is not recommended for blitz games considering its smaller size and is also magnetic.

As for the customer service, they also deserve 5 stars. I was initially upset because I was informed that the item was out of stock after I was already done placing my order but they were very fast in fixing the problem. So all in all, excellent!!!

I purchased this set because I wanted a better travel set it is a beautiful set and well made . With this set I feel I don’t need a full size set. Excellent customer service and prompt shipping

It's exactly what I was looking for. Love the product and absolutely great customer service. Super fast shipping at reasonable price.
