Millennium Chess Computer - The King Performance

Quality is bad, looks like the manufacturer used cheap laminate glue and it started peeling off. I rarely used it. Stay away, not worth the money.

The performance king is much better for me. I first ordered the centaur and was not happy with it . The king has many more levels and after a few games the king offered me a draw in one game and I really liked that about the king . So if you are looking at both go with the king .

Waz up chessmates?? After 30+ years of playing computer chess w/sensory touch chessboards; I'm now a loyal owner of the Millennium King Performance since October 2021!! My collection has (Fidelity Sensory 8..R.I.P. 😖) Fidelity Super 9 Sensory Chess Challenger, Excalibur King Author & Alexandra & Novag Citrine Senator 3rd generation. Moving from Novag Citrine to King Performance is a major jump in chess computer technology. Similar to moving from a flip phone to a smartphone!
Major points for my choice of the King are: Appearance>>Wood frame w/brass trim is very eye catching! And good color contrast of squares, plus high sensitive sensory surface I have years of experience. Also allows me to use my Citrine upgrade rosewood 3" King pieces! Display>Informative , contrast & brightness control & ergonomically designed to be close to the player. As my other computers display were either not Illuminated or located in the top right corner or too small. Field of vision is important to my "senior vision!" 🤓 Control buttons>>Positive feedback when pushed, size & placement on point! Program/engine>>Can handle beginner, intermediate or advanced level players...no question!! I'm a rusty, dusty tournament player from the 1970's; sloppy openings, positional type middle game & struggling end game opponent....and have one draw in 3 weeks of daily play!!!! I have not used my Chess volt battery yet, but sure it will be a blessing this winter if a power blackout occurs! And portability to a park, coffee house or library where power outlet is absent.
In closing, team Millennium has meet my chess needs for the 21st century! Thank you Chess House for your help & serving the chess community!!

Firstly an excellent quality chess set in terms of board construction and quality of the pieces. The command keys are very intuitive to use, a breath of fresh air after my Millenium Europe M800.

The processor is extremely fast and even at easy levels this is a tough computer to beat!

The board is very nice and is of good quality. I could not beat the default level so I reduced it one level and I am still struggling to beat it. The chess volt makes the machine playable everywhere and I am actually using it all the time. Finally I would like to thank Paul who is always there for help

I could easily give this set a 5-star but I decided against it because there are still room for improvements. The things that I like about the set:
- powerful 300mhz program with plenty of customization in playing strength and features
- totally affordable for an all-included package
- attention to details like availability of back-light settings , opening books, analysis on the display and etc.
- premium wooden looking set
- able to transfer games to computer and connect to computer for future proofing

I cannot say that everything is perfect about the set however. The flaws might not be bothersome for some people at this price point, but I still need to mention it.
First of all, the pressure sensor under the board needs more pressure than expected to compute a move. Compared to my Mephisto Master Chess Computer, the King Performance is way harder to press down and I also tend to knock down the surrounding chess pieces when pressing on the board with a chess piece. It really takes a bit of getting used to due to the stiffness of the pressure sensor.
Secondly, the unit itself does not have a built in bluetooth transceiver to connect to smart phones, but instead needs to attach to a separate device called Chesslink for that purpose. This adds to the weight and inconvenience when carrying the King Performance and the Chesslink around. I do not mind paying more for the set to have a bluetooth built in for convenience sake. I do understand that a built in bluetooth is something extra that not everyone will use or willing to pay for the extra feature. But Millennium can come out with 2 versions, one with the built-in bluetooth and one without ( the one that we are having) selling at different price points.

I forgot to add this to my last note, I have had maid a bespoke tinted cover and base to look after my chess set and leave the pieces on the board should i stop playing at any point until i return to continue. It really compliments the chess set, maybe Chess House should investigate this option for future and present buyers

It is so pleasant to play on. I am a beginner chess player and it just feels so nice and intuitive. I have it on the easiest possible setting but I still cannot beat the computer. However, it is making me a better player as I am now starting to predict what the computer will do. Definitely feels human-like to me, however I am not a frequent chess player so your experience may be different. Adding pressure to the squares when you make a move does take a bit of time to get used to, however it is a small price to pay to be able to use any chess piece set in the event you want to upgrade. One of the pieces had a crack, I reached out to Chess House and received a replacement in 3 days free of charge.. Overall very impressed and it looks great on my wooden desk in NYC, ready to play me anytime I want!

For me, and I am sure that it is necessary, but learning to navigate all of the computer aspects is much more complicated than the chess I looking forward to practicing.

Very pleased with this set. It was shipped perfectly. They really went the extra mile shipping this product. Overall the millennium chess game is very fun to play. You can make it as challenging as you want. I've played it on the fun level and won. Then I tried it on elo 1500 and got trashed. But a very fun experience. Would definitely recommend.

I'm very pleased with the The King Performance M830. I have it set in 'Expert' mode in "Normal" category, at level 9, which is supposed to be the highest level of difficulty. I'm no expert by far, but the computer appears to be playing flawlessly. This is exactly what I was looking for in a chess computer.

The computer is great and I'm enjoying it. My only negative comment is the chess pieces are not up to the quality I really wanted.

I’m really enjoying the Millennium King Performance. I like the old school style boards from the 80’s and this is perfect and the playing strength is much stronger than those days!

I researched buying a chess computer and The King Performance seemed like the best deal for the money. The reviews on YouTube were all very favorable. I contemplated purchasing the Mephisto Phoenix but could not reconcile spending four times the amount of what I paid for The King. Moreover, there was never any mention of whether Mephisto could play Chess 960 or whether it was part of the chess engine programing.
I am very happy with the King. I tried Chess 960 and have come to really like that version of the game. In fact, I have noticed that my classical chess skills have improved by playing 960.
The King Performance is running a very good chess engine that can be enjoyed by anyone including children. I like Millennium’s merger of the technological with the organic. It is a well put together computer running the Arm 7 M processor encased in a wooden frame with wooden pieces. In my opinion, it was worth spending a little more for the King Performance than buying the The King Competition; wood is nicer than plastic.
Finally, I would like to thank Chess House for putting up with my impatience regarding shipment. Due to no fault from Chess House, my insistence that my computer should be shipped to my post office box resulted in SmartPost getting involved in the shipment. According to the tracking, my package arrived in Houston within three days only to sit in some warehouse for two weeks. My anticipation was well worth it.
