The Grandmaster Chess Set Combo

My wife and I waited for a little over a month to get this set (we were waiting on the specific board to be re-stocked) and just received this set about 5 days ago. It arrived in perfect condition and we have already put many many hours of play into it!

We got the mahogany board with coordinates which is absolutely gorgeous for the money.

The pieces are absolutely amazing. We bought this set specifically because the knight looks like a scared Kuzco from Emporer's New Groove! Aside from that comic detail, the pieces are perfectly weighted and are quite large! Together with the board you have a functional piece of art in your living room. Price / Quality ratio is a 10 out of 10. This was 100% worth the wait! Customer service with Paul was also top notch and we will totally be willing to make future purchases with chess house.

First, the board and the pieces are exquisite. I feel like I’m playing in a world championship match when I play on this board. It is of that quality. The pieces are beautiful and sturdy as is the board. My wife, daughter, and I have absolutely loved every second of using this product.

Second, there was some damage done to the board during shipping which was not the fault of Chess House at all. Nevertheless, chess house immediately replace the damaged product. The customer service was quick and efficient and equal to the quality of the product. If I have further needs, I will definitely be purchasing from Chess House.

The acacia wood pieces are absolutely beautiful. You can feel the craftsmanship with each move. They've got a great feel, a stunning look, and an unmatched attention to detail (especially the knights!)

The board however, I can't recommend so highly. "Smoothly finished" applies to most, but certainly not all of the board. I was surprised to see noticeable dent/scratch blemishes on the edges, first, and second ranks. I've attached pictures but the marks don't show as clearly as they do in person. The inlay surrounding the squares shows some discoloration, which is only visible close-up, and doesn't bother me nearly as much as the scratches which are visible from 5-10ft away. The packaging wasn't damaged upon receipt, so it's unlikely the marks occurred during transit. It's a shame to see a board that was skillfully crafted, but handled poorly prior to being boxed up.

If you're looking for that centerpiece chess set like I was, definitely pick up the acacia pieces, but buy a different board separately.

I am very satisfied with the quality of the pieces as well as the board. I highly recommend this set because the pieces are extremely distinguishable and Chess House's customer service is amazing! I worked with Paul and was informed every step of the way. Love, love, love this combo set!

Sweet. Most pleased!
Great set. Classy.
Wooden pieces are nice. Extra queen for both colors. Board had coordinates.
Website worked perfect and painless. Packaged very well and arrival was right quick.

Well our board came without the coordinates... but it’s beautiful so we decided not to go through the trouble of sending it back.

I am REALLY happy with this. I focus on details (I'm certainly not alone as a chess player!) and I've looked over every chess piece and the board and it doesn't get much better than this. Very high quality. No blemishes, the finish is fantastic, and the board is beautiful. I'm definitely glad I went with a larger board (2.25" squares) compared with other options I was looking at. But that's personal preference and may depend on how much space you have. Attaching a picture of my setup in my home office where this replaced my plastic piece and vinyl board that I used for 20 years. I highly recommend this if you're thinking about this as a gift for your chess-playing spouse, son, or daughter (or self-gift it to yourself LOL).

With regard to the Chess House, I appreciate the email communications and updates and the personal touch of the tone of the emails. I expect these are generated by a computer (LOL) but for me it does make a difference.

I had been wanting to upgrade my chess set to something that was going to last. This is that chess set. It looks and feels amazing and I know it’s going to last a lifetime.

I had some trouble with the order process where it was not clear that the "order in x hours and get it by date y" condition that I was depending on (for a birthday gift) had gone away. When the order completed email arrived it was for a later date that did not work. I think this had something to do with the handoff to Shop. After a phone conversation with Chess House (email just offered an expedited delivery for more money) the delivery fee was waived and all went great. Gift was a big hit.
Thanks to Chess House!

I love it. Can’ play it yet but learning is a pleasure with this beautiful chess set. Thank you.

I am very pleased with this set. The board is heavy and the pieces are nicely weighted, with beautiful detail. I purchased the ebonized pieces and board. Nice bonus are the two bags for the chessmen that are very robust. For the money I doubt you could get a better set. Best of all though was the customer service from chesshouse.

This is a lovely chess set. The whole thing is very sturdy and the pieces feel great in the hand. The support team was a huge help with helping me track down some FedEx errors. A wonderful set from a fantastic company!

Thank you, I love it. The packaging was done well & the shipping was fast.

This is literally the best chess set on earth (as I found it by looking up “best chess set in the world”). The craftsmanship of the pieces is impeccable, and the most beautiful I’ve seen. I did have some problems with shipping. We paid extra for it to be delivered by my birthday (which it did not), but fortunately Chess House’s customer service is amazing and they refunded it immediately. Chess House checked in every day to see where the package where the package was until it got here. The only problem with the product is that the glaze scratches very easily. It already had one or two blemishes when it was delivered, which isn’t too bad, but after only a little more than a week it had about six or seven even though it has been handled very carefully. That being said, Chess House handled all our issues excellently. I strongly recommend you to purchase the pieces (maybe buy a different board). Chess House will definitely be getting more business from me. Thanks for making my birthday a special one Chess House!!

I am new to the world of chess, and became very interested in purchasing a nice board to play at home. I did quite a bit of research, and found myself drawn to ChessHouse more than any other online chess retailer. The bundling options were very nice, and I am over the moon with the board I've received. It feels so well made (the board and pieces), and came in a nice little gift package; which kept it very safe and secure during it's shipment. I am sure I will do many future purchases through this site, and you will not be disappointed with this product. Thank you!

Chess pieces, board, storage - all items super top quality and met your advertising!! In few years lucky grand child will inherit it !!

This is a beautiful set. The first thing I did was pull out one of the knights. It is intricately carved and and beautifully detailed. That specifically shows the quality of the whole set. The board is pretty large and the pieces are large and nicely weighted giving the entire set a very substantial feel. This is definitely an heirloom quality set that can be enjoyed for generations of chess players.

Beautifully crafted, delivered in great shape. Heirloom quality. Love it.

This set is a perfect size for . The pieces are nicely weighted and feel substantive in the hand . The carving is pretty nice too. I like that I can see the horses teeth. The pieces are also very smooth to the touch. The squares of the board appear to be individual pieces of wood. The nimbers and letters around the board are a let- down though as they are just painted on and very plain.

Beautiful chess board with rank and file indicators around the edge. Very large with 2in.squares at least. I love it very happy with purchase !

Well I wanted to give this as a gift to my son for last Christmas, didn’t work out thanks to The Queens Gambit series., and the sudden re-emerge of chess. Worth the wait. It’s a beautiful traditional chess set, very high quality.

Arrived as advertised. Really nice board and pieces. Reasonable price. Well packaged and delivered safe and sound.

I bought the Grandmaster Chess set combo and could not be any happier. The quality, craftsmanship, packing and piece size are all perfect. I'm a fan.

Love it.

Love it, no complaints at all. Looks and feels as I hoped it would, nice set.
