Worth the price

I have used the board with the DGT Pi computer and the board is working flawlessly. The colors and textures are perfect. The sensitivity and position scanning allowed by the board and the Pi works flawlessly. I have minor issues with the Pi and the pieces that I purchased to go with the board, but no issues with the board itself. I give the board 5 stars out of 5.

Trustworthy, Quality Place to Buy

I spent some time looking for a DGT board elsewhere, but this was the place that had the best price. Their site had good reviews and videos that showed their story and the fact that they genuinely cared about the care and quality of getting good chess gear out to players. I ordered the board and was wondering if they’d actually deliver on their promises. The board got here extremely fast, as promised (I was skeptical because the estimated arrival date was so soon). They sent emails and notifications that helped me feel secure about my package’s progress and it’s whereabouts. I ordered it late one night and they packaged and shipped it out the next morning. The product is great. Their deal was cheaper than anything I could find on Amazon or elsewhere and there weren’t any catches. The board works great. Just as B&H is the trusted source of photography gear, Chess House has shown me that they are the professional and reliable place for chess players to shop. They definitely earned a lifetime customer with this one. Thanks to them!

Piece Of Art

I purchased this board as an upgrade from my simulated wood plastic board. Although the plastic board is functional, my wood board is lovely, like a piece of art. The wood grain is flawless and the chess pieces move effortlessly over the wood finish. Also a special thanks to Paul from Chess House, who helped me obtain a new board when the first one arrived not functioning properly. I am very satisfied with the purchase of this board.

Brilliant product shipped with perfect service across the globe!

Chess House provided the most amazing, efficient service of any company I have used in a very long time. I live in Melbourne, Australia, which is on the other side of the globe form Chess House, and although they said it would take at least ten days to arrive, I actually had the digital board and DGT Pi Computer in my hands within 7 days of payment! Furthermore, the excellent tracking meant I knew when and where the packages would arrive.
With respect to to the products, I had my eye on the DGT Electronic Chessboard USB for some time now and when it arrived, I was not disappointed. As well as being highly functional and a super smart adjunct to chess playing and training, the board is a beautiful thing to look at. It took very little time to install the provided software and link to my PC and I had it working in no time at all. The board's size makes it perfect for training for over the board tournaments and makes analysis and learning a pure pleasure. I can't begin to tell you how much I am enjoying this. A tip for users of the DGT Pi Computer as well. I found the manual that came with the Computer not so clear in its layout, and I am a complete newbie to using these products so I had never seen them in real life before, but although all of the set up information is in the manual, I didn't find it very clear. To save time, make sure you use the 3 meter USB cord that comes with the board to connect your digital board to the Computer. The USB ports on the computer are hidden in the little section on the bottom left side of the computer. This is an incredible tool to use with the digital board, and I highly recommend buying both. I am ecstatic about this purchase and the service provided - worth every cent! Thank you so much Chess House - you will be my first point of call in the future.

Board Did not Recognize the Chess Pieces

Even after several days of trouble shooting and help from Chesshouse the board does not recognize the provided chess pieces. The issue has not been resolved, yet. Can't say that I like this board.

Beautiful Chess Board

Very much a beginner but thrilled with the board and the service I received.

My mistake but....

Current DGT USB eboards ship with USB-C port. This board (presumably from inventory stockpile of non-current boards), came with USB mini port (USB Mini standard was abandoned across 90% of electronics market two or three years ago in favor of USB micro, then USB C).

Though on review, I do see that the offering mentions USB Mini, I have to admit that the possibility that connectivity would arrive using an essentially abandoned USB standard never occurred to me. My board works correctly with Chess.com (via the DGT Live Chess library), only about 5% of the time and I can't help wondering if USB-C (and it's firmware, and because it also provides power), would provide a better experience. Three stars due to no discount from current "USB-C" prices

Rosewood makes chess more beautiful

One cannot express the utter joy and satisfaction of playing a relaxed game of chess over a DGT Rosewood electronic chessboard. What digital cameras and image compression algorithms cannot capture and preserve is the softened edges between the light wood panels and the deep maroon squares. This subtle yet welcomed effect is what provides true eye relief either from staring at 2-D chess graphics for too long or from playing on most standard chess boards. Paired with a beautiful wooden, weighted chess set, the over-all experience is amplified even further, making the gameplay even more elegant and gratifying.

Very satisfied

It took a learning curve to get it working with my laptop. But once past that it works great.

e-board and DGT3000 pi clock

The board looks impressive. The model I recieved is diffrent from the one in the photo on the box, no led power light and no on/off switch. I have more pages of various languages in the owners manuals than I have in actual information on the product I purchased. As of yet the board fails to recognize piece movement properly, there is a note in the manual that the proximity of metal can effect the sensors I will have to find more time to work with the DGT3000 before I can make a judgement. Same problems with the DGT3000 pi in regards to the manual. The software that came with the board is dense, using it requires prior knowledge or above average ingenuity. The Chess House was quick with the delivery and responsive to my questions I would buy from them again, the chess tables look very nice.

Always wanted one of these

Worth every discounted penny! I use a Mac, but the DGT board works perfectly using VMware fusion. I can play on the internet with a real board. But best of all is connecting it to my DGT 3000 and raspberry pi running pico chess. It turns into a full auto sensory chess computer, with multiple engines and completely customizable strength and playing style. I searched for the best price for this board for a long time before buying. Chesshouse was the least expensive, and you have the confidence that your purchase is backed and not hoping for the best from a unsupported online store in a different continent or some dodgy eBay seller. Well worth the wait and cost. Glad I got it from chesshouse.

DGT Chessboard

I have truly enjoyed using my new board. I do wish I had paid more attention to the specifics software required to use the eboard capabilities. I have a MAC and the digital software only works with Window applications.

Excellent

I used to have a Fidelity-something years ago, but I got bored with it- either I set it (for example) to Level 6 and beat it about 90% of the time, or I'd set it to Level 7 and lose 100% of the time.

Do these higher-end DGT electronic boards offer the "playability" akin to the Centaur's touted strength - its' ability to 'adjust' play so that the winning probability at each level is a little less predictable? (That is to say, is there an algorithm built in that makes winning chances more even [than 90% win @Level "6" vs 100% lose @ Level "7"]? )

Is the software's end game as strong as its' opening and middle game? (In the "old days" the electronic chess games' weakness was their end game programming.)

Thank you.

Chess House

The DGT boards don't have a playing strength at all. They are best compared to a keyboard, they require a computer to be properly used.

The strength and function depends on the computer program interacting with the board.
The smartboard and Eboards all come with Fritz computer software that you can use in conjunction with the board on a Windows based PC and free chess engines can be found online which can give different playing experiences akin to different players and their styles. We are not aware of any engines that offer an 'auto-adapter' level like the Centaur.

If you don't have a computer, the DGT Pi (computer) can fill that gap, offering several different chess engines that you can select with different strength levels to adjust as well. Though, we're not aware that the Pi has any 'auto-adapt' feature yet.

Which chess programs are included with the E-boards? Are these E-board programs stronger than those included with the Smart Boards? Are they all shipped with the same number of chess program options (ChessBase, Pocket Grandmaster 2.0, Arena, etc.)? Can I use my own chess set on a Smart Board?

I'm looking for a setup that can tutor me to improve my game and allow me to play at home alone. I don't require portability, internet functionality, tournament broadcasting, or Blu-tooth capabilities. "Any" of the boards' software are probably strong enough to help me (I'm ELO 1940). What board would you suggest?

Thank you very much.

Chess House

The eboards and smartboards themselves don't have any program built in, they are an input device, similar to a keyboard. They require a Windows based computer to be used.

When you purchase an E-board or a Smartboard, they do come with either Fritz 13 or Fritz 14 which you can install on your PC. They have a Fritz Chess Engine, but you can then load in any free chess engines you can find. (Stockfish, etc)

You cannot use your own chess set on an eboard or smartboard.

Based on what you've said, a smartboard would work well. If you don't have a PC, you can purchase the DGT Pi computer to go with the smartboard to have a complete setup.

If I paired a DGT Electronic Chessboard USB & Bluetooth with a DGT-Pi , what advantages would that combination offer over this board (The DGT Electronic Chessboard USB) with a DGT-Pi ?

In these configurations, is the Bluetooth board's only advantage that it doesn't need to be connected by USB to the DGT-Pi?

Would a PC powered by an Intel Core i7-9700K Processor w/64 Gb RAM compute faster or more thoroughly than the DGT-Pi ? (I couldn't find any specs on the DGT's processing power, sorry)

Thank you.

Chess House

The Bluetooth version has an internal battery, so it does make it portable for taking to a coffee shop, playing a game, then later exporting the played game to a computer. In order to do that with the USB board, you would need to provide power. Bluetooth can also connect to the PI via bluetooth. But the Pi requires power to operate, so you're still not completely wire free.

Your computer would be more powerful. You can contact DGT for those specs.

Customer

Hi How can u play blitz games? Do u move your opponent's piece's? Or just blitz against the computer? Also do i have to purchase fritz?

Will it adjust its playing strength?
Can u play on chess.com?
How can it improve your game?
Thanks
Harinder Brar

Chess House

Hi Harinder,

>>Regarding Blitz Games
For Blitz games, you would make the moves for the computer as well as your own.

>>Also do i have to purchase fritz?
No, Both the e-board and the smartboard come with a version of fritz you can use.

>>Will it adjust its playing strength?
Not automatically, you would need to set the playing strength level via Fritz (on computer) or with the DGT Pi (if purchased)

>>Can u play on chess.com?
As far as I am aware, DGT boards do not currently interface very well (directly) with Chess.com (if at all).

>>How can it improve your game?
* It's great for Interactive Computer Based Study
* You can record multiple games for export to computer to study / explore move variations.
* Auto Piece Recognition and actually moving physical pieces makes for natural game play and better kinesthetic learning if you plan to play against others.
* Fritz has a host of features to assist in improving your game... the board provides a natural experience vs clicking on a computer.
