Standard Flat Wood Chess Box

I received what I thought I had ordered.
After looking at many options, I decided on this box. When the package arrived, it was exactly what I thought it was. The box looked as it did in the images; the pieces fit as I expected.

The pieces fit nicely in the molded insets. The only drawback is that the box accommodates a standard 32-piece set and I have a double queen (34-piece) set so need to store the extra pieces elsewhere. Otherwise, it does the job as intended.

I found the box didn't fit my 3.5 inch pieces properly and realized only after purchasing the trays do not include space for promotion queens. I found the quality of the box itself to be below expectation and the trays to be an even more an unfortunate case. Had it fit my pieces and had the trays been of a sturdier, solid and not hollow plastic, I would not be writing this review.

Doesn't look like photo and cheaply made for price. I ordered the black colored box since picture shows red interior. Actual box arrived with green interior and barely held together by glue with spots of glue all over the chess box.

The only plus is the chess box holds my marble chess pieces securely. If I hadn't placed anything inside and damaged it some with cheap materials used..I would have returned it for sure.

Box will not fit my chess pieces….This is my third order from Chesshouse. I also ordered red and blue chess pieces that the color doesn’t look like the photo.

The chess box I received is one I think I pretty much have to keep, I have no housing for a set of chess pieces I have if I don't, but if I had the energy
to return this storage box I would. The box was the last one in stock in this model per Chess House, and frankly I think The Chess House sent me something somebody else had already returned before. The outside of the box was marked up with numerous, numerous scratches that were obviously made when it was manufactured and a few scratches that were made after it was manufactured, the end result is an unappealing pattern of scratches to the outside wood appearance of the box. I feel I did not get my money's worth - - but just don't want to go to the trouble of returning the box since it would be such a hassle and would have to go on yet another search for another storage box for my chess set. "Thumbs down", though, on this purchase.

I had a Turkish 32 piece 3.3 king and laser printed steampunk set with a truly bizarre 2 3/4” king with beer mug handles ; counting on the double sided coffer wells to protect it. Fair price considering the competition; sunken hinges a nice touch.

This was a gift for a family member who bought a hand-made chess set but didn't have anything to put it in. He was very pleased with this box and will put it on display on a side table that has a chessboard etched into it ready to play. The box is beautiful and matches the picture perfectly.

I'm very happy with the box for the fact the interior has fabric recesses for each chess piece... well engineered and considerate for the sake of taste and safety. Excellent product.

Ordered these for a Christmas gift. Case is solid and well made. Love that the hinges are recessed so that they will not catch on anything. Chess set is solid, nicely detailed, and just the right size. More than met my expectations, and excited to give this as gift.

Did not fit the set that I ordered. I ordered a weighted set which made the pieces slightly too tall to fit in the box. Not happy but my fault.

Came quickly and was in great quality! The customer service representatives were very nice and accommodating and answered every question I had. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase.

Lovely box, very nice foam inserts to properly protect the pieces. Unfortunately mine arrived with a bent nail in the catch, which had to be repaired, and it was a little too small for the pawns in my set - but that’s my fault for not double-checking!

Other than that it’s been a lifesaver - the whole reason I ended up buying replacement pieces was that we lost a bunch when we moved, so it’s nice to know the new ones are safe and secure.

It’s beautiful! I bought it for my boyfriends birthday and I hope he loves it! I opened it just to take a quick peek and it’s great! Super fast delivery too :)

the pieces fit nicely looks good , just what I needed

Smooth transaction. however there was a 6" scratch on the lower right top side white in color. Three light rubs of Old English took care of it. Everything else 5 star. Need another Flat Wood Chess Box will order soon. Any lower ship price?

These are very good quality. Unfortunatly they did not fit my needs and I had to return. Customer service for return was top notch.

Unfortunately the box is too small to hold my pieces, the base are too large to fit. I bought it for Drueke Players Choice pieces.

I did not receive the box on the 14th and I paid $22 for shipping, but you guys refunded the shipping and I had the 16th in time for grandkids party. So I was happy.

I tried to save a few dollars and went with a more economical case. The base of my pieces must have been too wide for the case does not close all of the way. The slightest pressure almost popped the closure off. It would be perfectly adequate for pieces with more narrow bases. For me it was not the best choice. The box itself is nice but the insert feels like low grade felt glued over plastic molding. All that being said, I keep the case flat on a desk until I need it and it looks quite nice. For smaller pieces it would be 4.5-5 stars! The fault for this purchase lies with me, not Chess House. They continue to provide quality gear!

I've been told by a professional chess restorer that the last place you want to store an antique Jacques Staunton Chess set is in the box it was sold with! So I purchased this case to store them. It arrived quick, great communication, packed very well, and it looks beautiful. I can't wait to try it on my set when it comes back from restoration! Thanks!
