Prefer Silicon to Vinyl Boards

I appreciate how this silicon board can be folded in ways a vinyl board cannot, and adheres more readily to most surfaces, while not “curling” as much when rolled.

Great silicone board

This is a very flexible board that grips well on the table and does not wrinkle at all. It lays flat and is lovely to play on.

Good Value for Money

Chess boards at that price generally are cardboard, and they are smaller. This one folds and rolls up well, without creasing, It has large squares and easy to see graphics. Many of the chess masters with YouTube channels appear to use the same board.

Lies flat!

I have a club set that goes on vacation with us and is used for family games. It came with a vinyl roll up board which works, but always had a curl to it. This board is the same dimensions as my old one but lays right down flat. It also takes up less room when rolled and can be folded, so it takes up less space than the old board. Two enthusiastic thumbs up!

for a floppy tournament board, silicon is better than the usual vinyl

This silicon board actually lays perfectly flat, immediately, every time. I also have a vinyl tournament board and I've been disapointed with the vinyl's propensity to curl. Regardless of what someone might say, a vinyl board curls. It doesn't lay perfectly flat. Over time, if you flatten a vinyl board out with weights, it will lay flat, until you roll it up again. This silicon board feels like a floppy stretchy rubber sheet when it isn't on a table surface. It can be folded, but probably could also rip fairly easily. It smells a bit like oil, but I hope that will fade over time. It has only been out of the package for a few days. It works well with felt bottom tournament pieces.

Nice board!

This silicon board is ideal both indoors and outdoors. It folds easily and is weather resistant. Glad I purchased it.

Doesn't crease!

my new favorite on-the-go board. I was skeptical of its price, given the cheaper alternative chess mats, but it's well worth it.

Portable, sticky, and slight bump

I bought one of these back in the summer ('18) and I'm now seeing (winter '18) that I prefer the vinyl as my pieces are felted and allows for better movement of the pieces. A few times when playing blitz it was hard to slide pieces due to how sticky the surface of this board is. Lastly, there is a slight bump in the board when laid out all the way. I've heard this is usual for this kind of board. Other than these small details, the board is wonderful!

Silicone Perfection

The silicone mat arrived on time and in perfect condition. It always lays flat, no matter how I fold, roll or crumple it. The price was fair and I am a happy wood pusher.

Great board

I play outside in the rain at times and this board is perfect. Fits in my bag by folding and keeping it's shape once unfolded. Also nice and staticy (zap!) When you unfold it. Last one I had I gave to a Turkish kid learning to play...had to replace it right away.

Advantages and Disadvantages

The advantage of this chess board is that you can roll it up tight for easy transport because it is so very thin. You can even crumple it up and shove it in a pocket. It will always lay out flat.

The disadvantage is that the board is sort of "grabby" so you cannot slide pieces. You have to pick the pieces up completely. The slightest touch of the piece to the board and the board will grab it, making piece movement more difficult. You would not want to use it for Blitz.

It is definitely NOT worth $15.00 If you are going to spend that kind of money for a chess board you would be better with the mouse pad type of board. If you can find a mouse pad board that has the same thinness as the silicone board, go with that instead.

If you wish something without the grippy surface, the Flex Pad mat is smooth and thin.

Good quality

Very good quality, especially for the price. I like the silicon mat a lot... it feels great when you step the pieces on it. The bag is also very practical and fits all the pieces and the silicon mat also.
I would definetly buy it again.
Delivery was delayed by the german customs office because the packet came without an external bill.

5/5

I love the mat and pieces, BUT they all don't fit in the bag.....make the bag larger to hold both the mat and pieces.

Silicone Chess Board Disappointment...

I've had this board for over 10 months now and it still doesn't lay flat. I've even tried leaving it out in the sun. The brown square colors have smears in one section (I decided to live with that). But the divots and the wrinkling the board had when new, and I had hoped would work their way out, obviously are a permanent part of the board. No matter how I fold it, lay it, crumple it, or roll it, they are always evident when I lay it flat. I now must confess that I'm quite disappointed in the quality of this silicone board.

the brown color is very pleasing to the eye, and goes well with the Emisario brown and tan pieces.

Yes, it collects dust too - But I've found that a quick brushing with a pure bristle paint brush works well to brush the dust particles away, without needing to wash the board.

And yes, it is very convenient to fold up and put in the bag with the pieces - I just wish it didn't have the issues with laying flat (and divots).

Best roll-up board

Since it immediately goes flat, it is better than vinyl boards. Ignore the cost.
