Received a complimentary one of these (thanks) with a recent purchase and really a nice surprise!

The quality and design of this is terrific, with some sharp coloring, including the Chess House logo on the cover.

And if you tuck both piece-holder sections underneath (see pics) you've got a perfectly balanced set with notation, too!

I was expecting this to be more flimsy but it's surprisingly well constructed, totally worth the $10, will be ordering more for some of my students!

I ordered this set (on right in photo) without realizing that I had already purchased another one years ago. Noticeable improvements have been made since my original purchase. Notice the older set (on left in photo); I added a piece of gray sheet medal to the pocket on the lower flap to retain captured pieces. Both sets were made in China but are similar in size and vinyl colors.
The new set has additional queens and blank pieces that could be used to replace any lost pieces not found in the older version. The captured pieces may be placed anywhere on the lower flap.
My only suggestion is: if you plan to carry this around in your pocket, I would use a plastic snack/sandwich bag for the set. When the set is folded, it is possible that any pieces on the edge of the board may slip out. Better in the bag than in your pocket where it may go unnoticed.

I like to buy these sets and if I find a youngster who is interested in Chess, either in a program, watching others play, or learning the game, I give him or her one of these sets. They are easy to carry, pieces stay in place, and are durable. I would rather see youngsters put their efforts into this rather that be addicted to video games.

Not sure what I was expecting, its a decent set though.But it's stickers on magnets, they won't last. Not sure how I'll fix it when they peel off. Where can I buy more stickers?

I appreciate the pocket magnetic chess set for purposes of solving puzzles and examine my online correspondence chess games.

Just what I was looking for. Good quality, right size, easy to use, strong magnets. Now I can follow a game in a magazine while waiting in the doctor's office!

As with all of chess house products, this is a beautiful well crafted piece. You could use it on the road and play games against someone else, or you could use it to practice. I use it for both. The price is amazing considering the quality of the product.

I have several magnetic pocket sets and this is the best. Pieces are easily distinguishable and the board is a pleasant color. Highly recommended

I use this set everyday. I love how you can pause, close up the board and the pieces stay in place for later. It’s the size of your phone so it’s easy to carry around. When I get bored I used to stare at my phone but now I get to play my game for better entertainment. Truly the best decision I’ve made.

This pocket magnetic set is as expected. The magnetic pieces are thicker than I had hoped for so they are easier to pick up than I thought they would be. It is not too thick folded up and still feels sturdy. We’ll see how long it takes for the plastic cover to split from the inner frame as this type of thing tends to do on the folds. Very pleased after a week of use on a road trip. (Also, no need to recharge so that’s a huge plus on the road.)

Better than expected.

Perfect size. Neat little design. Really nice and simple. Slightly smaller than my note20. Really is perfect in my opinion. Only wish it closed flush with the pieces scattered across the board. Alas, I'll live. Loved it so much I felt compelled to order a backup.

No surprises. Delivered exactly as pictured and described for an excellent price.

Tucks in my purse with a minimum of space. This, with a paperback like "Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess" or "The Tao of Chess" is all I need to study on the go. No big boards to lug and it's hard to lose magnetic pieces.

I’m always looking for travelers set because I play chess with my girlfriend all the time and it’s nice to have something such good quality and portable on you at any given time

The magnetic, portable chess set I purchased is a great product! I can replay famous games on it sitting in my recliner and carry it as I would a check book wallet. Excellently made and also perfect in its design and functionality!

I was very pleased that this set was much more robust than I expected for the price. Well made, well thought out.

Very nice pocket chess set with extra queens and 5 blanks. I would love to see a similar portable set with a 10" board size.

The pieces are fantastic. I just wish they included an extra Bishop, Knight, and Rook along with the extra Queen that is already supplied. They included blank pieces.....so instead of including those “blank” pieces, it would have been nice to see the extra effort by this company to simply add the extra three pieces each instead of blank pieces.

The actual board is pretty cheap. Pieces could easily get lost if not super careful. Also, if you leave a game in progress, the folding board does not stay shut magnetically. Design flaw, in my opinion. If they would make this with a zipper that runs along the outside to “enclose” the pieces when not in use, it would be better...especially if you’re worried about losing pieces.

The good thing about this product is the price point. However, I wouldn’t pay one penny more for this product unless there were improvements like mentioned above.

I love this little magnet set. It reminds me so much of one I had growing up, in which my brother would crush me on long car rides. It is not a luxury item for sure, but the thick and squishy cover has a great weight, and the magnets are nice and thick. I also appreciate the analysis grid and the extra queens, so often left out of magnetic or travel sets. I always have this close at hand when reading through games for study and analysis, and one day will take it with me when travel becomes an option again. This would make a great gift or prize for a chess student.

I have only spent a few days with my chess set, but I can tell right away that it is a good quality product. I will purchase more items from this store in the future for sure.

This is the perfect chess set to carry along with a book of moves, tactics, etc. I like to be able to play out the games or moves that I read about so that I understand them while reading and this is the perfect size set to do so. If I get interrupted, the magnets hold everything securely until my next chance to read/explore. Chess house delivered amazingly fast during the busiest holiday of the year. They are thoughtful and professional and I wouldn't hesitate to order from them again. Maybe next time one of those nice, computerized chess games to add to my Fidelity Chess Master collection.

It’s perfect and portable and makes for a great stocking stuffer!

The set is okay for travel. But the set i received with opened end. I have to place some sticky tape to cover the opened gap. I could give 5 stars but mine not perfect with minor defects.
