About Deal Items:

Deal items are products that may be new, slightly used, or in some way not suitable as a regular price product. Products may become deal items for any reason, box damage, not regular stock, imperfect, or very slight damage. Sometimes new products arrive with small scratches or dents that disqualify as new during quality control checks at the warehouse. Defects may at times be hardly noticeable and at other times quite obvious but a reasonable effort is made to portray accurately.

Original Item Description:

The perfect playing partner for all chess enthusiasts. With color display, many learning and help functions and a playing strength of up to 2,200 ELO.

The new ChessGenius Pro with its color display offers fun for all players - while being easy and intuitive to use. The PLAY button easily starts new games: with white, with black, in 2-player mode or from a specific position. The powerful processor delivers lightning-fast response times at all game levels. The design has been completely modernized compared to the previous model: super slim, modern and with stylish pieces that fit well in the hand.

Features

You can set an almost unlimited number of difficulty levels. Tournament levels are available for particularly strong players, which challenge even very good club players with up to 2,200 ELO. The easy game levels have been further optimized so that even absolute chess beginners can win. Up to 12 games can be stored and reloaded in the device. Alternative computer moves, different playing styles and 3 options for the opening books round off the chess experience. For maximum freedom, a level with freely adjustable times, number of moves and increment is available.

The chess computer can abandon games or offer draws. The optional chess trainer warns of bad moves, offers their takeback and makes suggestions for better moves. The help button shows possible moves in the game - either for all pieces or only for the selected piece. Even the names of the openings played are shown on the display if desired.

Comfort

The ChessGenius Pro is equipped with the latest MILLENNIUM pressure sensing technology. The extra smooth chess board of 20 x 20 cm (8“ x 8“) ensures enjoyment! The high-contrast color display with the modernized user interface allows quick access to all functions. With 14 languages for all menu and help texts, there is the right language for everyone!

All menu items are provided with help texts in the selected language. You don't know what a certain setting does? One press of the ? button and you know - without the need for an instruction manual!

Power saving: The device works with batteries, NiMH rechargeable batteries or the optional M811 power supply. The device detects periods of non-use and then automatically switches to power saving mode.

Portability

The magnetic pieces allow the game even on the go. They cling to the board surface even when it’s in motion. They are easily and safely stored in the included cotton piece bag.

The main switch on the back of the device allows you to completely disconnect the power supply. So you can simply take your ChessGenius Pro with you and play wherever you happen to be spending your free hours.

I am very happy with this chess computer!

I shopped for a while before choosing this option. I like that it is self contained and I don't need a phone or internet access to use it. It's like traveling back in time to first gen. style chess computers of the 1980s, but this has more powerful software and a really nice design. It runs on AA batteries, making it even more versatile for travel and camping. It will take an AC adaptor if you want to add one of those. I run it with the LCD screen at 25% brightness and the sound off. It is a soothing experience. I love the tutor function that lets me know I made a bad move and I can learn from that and take back the move if I want. This function can also be disabled. It is small enough to fit in the laptop sleeve of a backpack, which is awesome! I haven't beaten it yet even on Level 1 Normal play, but I am learning a lot and it is a ton of fun! Chess House is wonderful, by the way. Get whatever you need right here!

Not perfect, but very portable and worth the cost

    PROS:
Bright and legible screen, well finished pieces, responsive game play in a lightweight easy to carry from room to room platform.
Fast and reliable service from Chess House as always.
    CONS:
The pressure sensitive board is prone to having glitches at times. Sometimes it does not respond to a light press and the on occasion, it responds before I have pressed the square to which the piece was moved to, announcing its displeasure when I do press the piece with a buzzer sound. In all fairness, it might be me on some occasions not pressing the piece down hard enough. I have tried various degrees of pressure with the same effects.
The navigation on the menu is somewhat laborious, the option to start a new game is several screens in where I would think it would be better served on the first screen displayed. Personal preference I imagine, but it is the option I select most often.
The buttons feel “cheap” when pressed. They remind me of an inexpensive child’s toy as opposed to a higher end machine. This might be a conscious decision to ensure you do not accidentally press the buttons during game play, as they tend to “click” as opposed to press and the beeps are annoying. Why does every button installed on electronics these day beep? At 0400 in the morning, these beeps seem unusually loud and I am concerned the dogs, my wife or both, will awaken and complain about my playing a game when they are trying to sleep.
    Final impressions:
None of the above are deal breakers for me, just my observations after a dozen games played.
When set to the “Fun” settings, it will challenge you while making some moves that make you scratch your head in disbelief. Higher levels are not inclined to afford you any such latitude, forcing you to play your best.
Not a substitute for a full size board or pieces, my Centaur set allows a more natural game play with higher levels available. The build quality of the Millennium seems better than the Centaur however, the buttons aside as both have the same feel. A full size board is not easily moved from room to room and this will be a welcome companion in our motor home when traveling.

    Swell little machine

It is hard to judge exactly how big or small a set is by its puxture. This set is on the smallish size but its attributes are quite positive. The mag board limits/prevents the pieces from sloshing around, various openings in its book, and excellent command and control functions, the(?) button pretty much negates the need for a complex manual. The playing strength keeps you on your toes and punishes sloppy play, just what I need. All in all an excellent product and purchase.

    Real Deal

Just watches a sales on eBay for a Saitek Atlanta ELO 2270 or so for around $1500 and realized $129 Millennium - Chess Genius PRO - 2024 Edition was about 50 ELO points stronger with many more desirable features! Am I missing something?
