8" Magnetic Travel Chess Set in Black and Boxwood

i recently purchased this magnetic chess set for me and my kids to play in the car on a long car trip. the magnet strength is perfect for securing pieces to the board, while still being very easy to move around. everything feels high quality, and the travel case makes throwing it in a bag/backpack/suitcase a no brainer. i look forward to continuing to make memories with my family and this chess set.

I am quite happy with this fine little travel set. I use it on one side of my chess table for variation analysis. It's a perfect fit, even enough room for my coffee. The pieces' proportions are very good, the board is ideal and the magnetic strength is just right. Too many magnetic sets are too strong, so the pieces grab each other when you try to move them. These are just strong enough to hold their place. It's a bit costly compared to the abundant cheap plastics portables, but well worth the cost.

I wanted a more elegant travel set and this one is outstanding. The colors in both the board and the pieces are rich, the magnet strength in the pieces is robust, and the size is perfect for use on my lap at home and in the car. The board has a nice velvet backing that keeps the board from slipping. And it is conveniently contained in it's own box when not in use. Perfect for me!

I've had bad experiences with travel sets, they always felt cheap, and almost disposable. Returned two to other vendors, Chesshouse does their homework, and sells quality products. Ordered this one since it kind of matches my FIDE tournament set, and am beyond pleasantly surprised. It's a small set, so don't expect the detail from a 3.75-4 inch set, but my kids and I can't get over how detailed the little pieces are. With the Chess.com clock, we have a blitz set up for anywhere now. Fun to keep this in the car, and play anywhere. Picture below gives you an idea vs a tournament board. Pieces stick to the board, and are easy to move when you want.

I've imported this product from Spain and, although it has been extraordinarily expensive due to customs taxes, it has been worth it because I don't think I've seen such a nice, manageable and well-constructed chess set across Europe. I love rounded corners; the board is perfect; the size is ideal, neither too big nor too small; the pieces are constructed with a lot of detail and have good touch; the magnets allow you to turn it around and move it without the pieces getting out of place. To mention some faults, I had to leave it outdoors several days to remove the smell of varnish; the case, although robust, brought many loose uncut threads and a small defective stitching area; one of the white pieces is slightly darker than the rest and a white tower has more battlements because it presents two extra slits that should not be there. However, they're small understandable details when it comes to a craft product.

Another awesome travel set! The pieces are beautifully crafted, and the magnets work well. Everything stays put, even held upside down. I love the contrast of the black with the boxwood! The solid board (not folding), will be perfect to sit on any surface. Because of its convenient size, it will be my main go-to set to carry around in car. It has individual slots for each piece, so this set will also be great for analysis/problems. Slight finish aroma will fade soon, as did the 4" and the 12” set. All three sets (4” and 8” and 12”) are in the picture for scale.

The reviews for this chessboard were all positive, but I didn't want to get my hopes up. Never fear, this chessboard is everything I hoped it would be. I love the wooden pieces, magnetism and the blonde color for white, as well as the attractive chess board. This is really a nice set and love the padded case it comes in as well. I'm very happy with this purchase.

This is my favorite travel set. I also have three of these. I keep one of these for chess study next it’s 12” brother. I keep another set in my truck and another set on my motorcycle. This is the set I play with most days at lunch. I love these sets!

My husband and I travel often and don’t care for playing chess on our cell phones. This set fits in my carry on tote and we are able to play during our layovers, in hotels, and even by the pool. This is a quality set and is beautifully crafted for its purpose. The magnetic pieces hold tight enough to the board that we are not worried about them falling off, while at the same time you don’t struggle to move pieces at all. Great purchase.

My customer service was excellent. My items showed up a day early and was securely packed. The description of the set was misleading, in my biased opinion, in the small detail of the description of the magnet strength. I wish it said, "adequate," instead of "strong." I was comparing the chess set to a travel set that I had as a child, the Drueke 87710, a cheap, plastic, metal board and pieces but the connection was solid. This board is beautiful with a few minute imperfections, the pieces will stay in place with all but the most radical travel environments, the proportions are pleasing and overall worth the investment. Two of the pieces' magnets were not as connective as the rest but the sales associate was happy to send out a couple of replacements. I will order from them again.

This product is lovely. Hard to get anything better if youre looking for a small portable board with a classic feel and magnetized pieces.

The travel set that I bought began to separate somewhat. I emailed Chess House for any repair suggestions they may have. I was pleasantly surprised when they chose to replace the set entirely.
They make a good product and they stand by it.

I've ordered this chess set in November 23, when it was available for pre-order (and obviously, was charged the same day) and sent a mail asking for an estimated arrival time.
I was told they cant commit on one, but will probably have it for the holidays -which is lovely, since its a gift, and that they will keep me updated as much as they can. So far so good.
about a week or so I sent another mail, asking for an update - and been trying to contact them ever since.
I've yet to receive a respond (honestly, very annoying, since the first time i got a respond quickly).

Before ordering I looked on the reviews in this site and got the impression everything will go smoothly - however, upon receiving no replay (I've tried to contact them about 5 times) I'm starting to worry.

I use this board to analyze my games or to keep my place as a second board when analyzing using my full sized board. While the bishops could be shaped slightly different to differentiate them from the pawns I would still highly recommend this because of it's durability and the fact that it seems to be of higher quality than what the price tag would suggest.

Really nice product, good materials and construction. Fine quality. Magnetic let you prop it up to take less space or put it in a tablet arm to put it off the desk.
